What is that exactly?
What is Play Therapy?
If you were to peek in on a Play Therapy session, it would probably look like we were just building with legos, sword fighting, burying objects in the sandbox, or playing house. However, you would be amazed at the information that is being communicated in it’s own way. With Play Therapy, I can interpret a child's play because of my extensive training. I translate their play into our adult language and offer suggestions for shifts at home. My goal is to empower the entire family system.

How is it different than just playing with my kiddo at home?
Parents playing with their children is so important, but it is not the same thing as play therapy. Children can not separate their parents from their roles as providers. If you ask your kiddo an emotionally charged question, you probably get, "I don't know." Yet, when I see their play language, there is a vast amount of information. My play therapy practice involves constantly being aware of my own experience in relationship to the client. I am almost in a moving meditation. This kind of concentration and present attunement can only be offered in a special time and space. A play therapist must have a regulated nervous system and emotional congruence. It is impossible to maintain this heightened awareness all day, everyday, especially without intensive training. |
What is Hokomi Talk Therapy?
Hokomi Therapy is for high-functioning clients who want to expand their world view and have more options in life. In Hokomi, we access our body’s wisdom (such as our guts and our instincts.) Instead of trying to “think” our way through the problem, we slow down and listen to our own wisdom. From this place, we can tune into what the tightness in our back is trying to tell us or how we can sense we are angry before we actually act out our anger. Through Hokomi, you know yourself as you never have before, and it is good to be YOU! |
Can these therapies be done outside?
Absolutely! Glad you asked! I strongly believe in the healing power of nature. My Masters degree in Wilderness Therapy gives me the skills to do therapy anywhere. Therapy outside can look many ways, from simply walking and talking, to creating nature art, to throwing rocks into a river. The possibilities are endless, and thus the expression can move quickly.
